Heath and I bowl in a couples league every Wednesday night. Tonight, after a particularly bad streak, I hit the ten pin in the first part of the frame, and got a spare in the second. The spare was a particularly solid hit, and I sat down beaming.

Heath looks at me, and says, “Good job, you should have hit that on the first one.”

After a quick glare, I suggested that he got off the bench before I shoved him off.

I’ve got about 1200 ideas in my head when it comes to sewing, and right now, my first priority is a hanging sewing organizer, made out of the fabrics in the photos. I’ll post a picture once it’s complete, for now, here’s a preview.

Whatever chances of an Indian Summer were left are now gone. It’s about 25 degrees outside, and with the exception of a few days this winter, I’m guessing we won’t see much above that.

One of the things I love most about the wintertime is that it forces me to actually sit down and do the things I love the most. The 4-5 months of cold, snowy crap is worth it, because I finally have the time to read, sew, crochet, catch up on movies, play board and video games, and just really sit down and have conversations. So, yes, it was snowing today, and yes, it’s cold out, but I’m just fine with both of those, as long as I have things to do.

24 years ago today, my mom was arguing with her doctors because they wanted to take her in for a c-section before Magnum PI was over. This was after 40 hours of labor, and waiting an extra 2 weeks for me to make an appearance.

So, it’s my birthday, and I’m celebrating all weekend long. I’ll blog more once it’s over.

NaBloPoMo - Day 13 - Adventures in Cake Baking

My birthday is this weekend, and as such, I’m having a couple of celebrations. One is a party for my sorority, one is a private dinner with Heath and I, and then I’m having a sushi night out on Sunday night. The party for my sorority is at Heath’s house, and as such, we’re making two cakes–one is a yellow cake with chocolate buttercream frosting, and the other is a red velvet cake that I’m doing a rolled fondant on.

Given that we have two large baking projects going on RIGHT NOW, I made a very exact grocery list which had the ingrediants, as well as the amounts used. Standing in the baking aisle, I told Heath that we need 2 oz of red food coloring for the red velvet cake. He gave me this look of disbelief, and promptly told me that the recipe had to be wrong, because you only use a few drops in anything that requires food coloring. We bought the smaller four pack, which gives you .3 oz of red.

In case anyone was wondering, .3 oz of red food coloring will give you a cake that approximates the shade of a Barbie dress.

Heath has bowled in a bowling league since he was knee-high to a grasshopper. His entire family bowls(and in some cases, coaches), so it’s pretty natural/normal for him to be in a bowling alley. The league he’s in started back up in the end of September, and with the exception of one night, I’ve gone every Wednesday, to cheer him on and socialize. Over the course of the past few months, the girls in the league have gone from standoffish to welcoming, and in recent weeks, downright persistent about me joining.

This league is made up of a lot of couples, with a single here and there. Since I wasn’t interested at the beginning of the season, Heath was paired up with another single in the league, and I didn’t think anything of it. Last week, the 4th on his team was too overloaded to make it to league, and Heath started bugging me to sub in. I agreed, as long as I had to do none of the work to bowl, and since he held up to his end of the deal, I held up to mine. One of the women offered at the end of the night to give me an old ball of hers, and we generally talked about it, but didn’t nail down any specifics.

Tonight, I barely made it back from Des Moines in time to join him for league, but we got there. I look to my left, and in comes Janet, carrying a bowling ball in a box.

5 minutes later, Jan, one-half of the couple on Heath’s team, comes up to me, asking if I want to make my spot on the team permanent, claiming that the 4th now has a more permanent time commitment on Wednesday nights, and they need a replacement member.

5 minutes after that, Janet comes back up to me, asking if I am officially joining the league, because they can shuffle the 4th to a different team.

Heath and I started talking about it later in the evening, and he said, “It’s almost like we planned this…but we didn’t.”

Yeah, sure, he may not have, but I’m pretty damn sure the girls did. Anyway, I’m officially in a bowling league now. Does this mean I just aged myself ten years?

So, earlier today, I was thinking about cake. Birthday cake, specifically, given that my birthday is this weekend. Since this morning, I’ve been thinking about cake a LOT. As a result, I’m now researching fondant, in an attempt to go from the lousy cake maker to ooooo, aaaaaah. If I get decent results, I’ll post pictures of it on thursday. If I don’t, completely disregard this post.

I am a prolific Google Reader user. I subscribe to about 100 feeds, and read somewhere around 300 posts a day. If I didn’t use RSS, I’d likely get 1/10th of the reading done that I do currently, just because remembering site addresses is such a pain. Now, I understand that users want to bring their readers to their site, whether it is to see the design, or for ad revenue, but as of tonight, I have eliminated every feed that uses the preview function. Honestly, your blog may have great things to say, but if I can only see 25 words or less of what you have to say? I’m just not interested.
