    NaBloPoMo - Day 30 - Ch-ch-ch-changes

    30 11 2008
Two major things have happened in my life over the course of the past month. On the first day of the month, I was still living in my condo with my roommate. Now that it's the last day of the month, I'm living with Heath, and have one carload worth of stuff left to pickup, which we'll be doing today.

The other major thing? That would be this:

That is a Solis SL-70 espresso machine, with a Capresso Infinity Burr Grinder. Over the course of our relationship, both Heath and I have become quite addicted to the caffiene, and were spending entirely too much money at Caribou Coffee and Java House. At the rate that we were going, our entire setup, including all of the storage bottles for syrup, will pay for itself in about two months. That's exciting!

Here's a picture of what I'm drinking right now:

Yet another reason I like the Christmas season? Peppermint Mochas. :-)

Here's to being done with NaBloPoMo!

    NaBloPoMo - Day 29 - Christmas Tree

    29 11 2008
When I was growing up, we'd traditionally put up the Christmas tree on Black Friday, and avoid the crowds entirely. This year, I was a day late, but this is also the first tree that I can call my own, and the best part about it is that it was completely free. I managed to score the tree and most of the decorations on freecycle, with some of them coming from my coworker. So, here it is. My first Christmas tree.

    NaBloPoMo - Day 28 - Black Friday

    28 11 2008
Ok, so we only went shopping to one place, and it was for a video game that we would have bought even if it hadn't been black friday, but since it's the end of the day, and I have 6 minutes to blog, lets go with bullets!

    • Started the day with 4 shots of espresso--hosting thanksgiving is tiring!

    • Ate entirely too much dessert, thanks to the influence of Heath's family

    • Bowled two fairly shitty games--I don't hit my groove until the third game, and I was just starting to get there at the end of the second

    • Had Heath's mom talk about how you don't talk about religion, politics, or marriage at holiday dinners, after she had ALREADY talked about all three, and his dad threw in a quip about grandkids.

    • Bought Little Big Planet. Quickly got mad because of Little Big Planet. Discovered I liked LBP once I got to actually start playing it.

    • Have an upset stomach from dinner at Vesta. Service sucked too!

OK, that's all folks. 2 more days, and I've blogged EVERY day of November!!!

    NaBloPoMo - Day 27 - Thankful

    27 11 2008
This post was pre-written, due to the holiday.

Today, I'll be doing various things, such as vacuuming the house, cooking cornish hens for the first time(wish me luck), and hosting a friend's thanksgiving celebration. It'll be an interesting mix of my stragglers and Heath's friends, but each person is someone I enjoy spending time with, and it'll be a fun day, once the morning rush is over.

At this point in my life, I'm thankful for a lot of things:

I have a job that I enjoy, with a co-worker who doesn't drive me crazy

I'm surrounded by a variety of friends.

    I have a wonderful boyfriend.

My puppy has made it through the first year of her life without driving me TOO crazy.

Is it silly to be thankful for my iPhone? Because I am :-P

My mom is in good health, and cancer free.

I've taken 3 major trips in the past year, and have another planned for before the year is out.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, whether it is spent with friends, family, or alone.

    NaBloPoMo - Day 26 - A Challenge

    26 11 2008
Mom has declared that her Australian friends are reading my website, and that I needed to check my site statistics. I feel like I'm walking into something of a Chris Gaines/Garth Brooks(another story for another day) trap, but I'll respond to that. Australia seems to be lacking in it's representation, but there are quite a few unknown hits. So, if you're one of my Mom's Australian friends, de-lurk yourself. Tell me who you are, and a random fact that you think I should know.

Hell, if you're anyone I don't know, drop a comment. I'd love to know what my demographic is, besides country of origin, operating system, and browser. Have a great day!

    NaBloPoMo - Day 25 - Circles

    25 11 2008
Sometimes, I feel like I'm running my life in circles. This morning, I woke up at the house, went to work, went back to the house to take care of the dogs, went to the condo(very close to work), and once I'm done with dinner, and Heath is ready to go home, it's back to the house.

Other circles are different. This afternoon, I was talking with Kristi when Tyler called. Talking with Tyler when Maria called. All three girls are best friends, and they all managed to interrupt each other. Such is life, though I'm glad I got to talk to all of them today.

I'm going to Colorado in a month, Hawai'i in 13. Different people, different experiences, same places. All-in-all, I like the comfort of knowing what's ahead, and knowing that it's familiar territory.

The only thing that isn't a circle right now is my relationship with Heath, and I'm perfectly fine with that :-D.

    NaBloPoMo - Day 24 - 6 days to go!

    24 11 2008
I'm so very tired right now. Only 6 more days of forced blogging, then back to my regularly scheduled silence.

NaBloPoMo - Day 23 - In case you were wondering...

    23 11 2008
the physical limitations of a Chevy truck are, then you'll be interested in seeing the picture below.

Yes, that is a tool rack, mattress, box spring, and TWO couches on top of a chevy truck bed. Only in Iowa. Gah.

    NaBloPoMo - Day 22 - Peppermint Bark

    23 11 2008
    Peppermint Bark

1 pkg Ghiradelli 60% cocoa chips

1 pkg Ghiradelli White chocolate chips

    1 pkg Candy Canes

Line a baking pan with parchment paper. Prep the candy canes by running them through a food processor Start out by heating the 60% cocoa chips in the microwave, 30 seconds at a time, stirring to make sure it doesn't seize. Sift the peppermint over the melting chocolate, to get the finer dust mixed in. Once the chips are melted, dump onto the parchment paper, and smooth around with a spatula until it covers the entire paper. Stick outside in the cold.

Heat the white chocolate chips in the microwave, using the same method as above. When melted, pour on top of the dark chocolate chips, and spread with a spatula, being careful to not drag the dark chocolate into the mix. Sprinkle peppermint bits evenly over the bark. Throw back outside.

45 minutes later, bring it inside, whack it with a knife until the pieces are of manageable size, and put half of it in the fridge. Otherwise, you'll eat it all in one sitting. :-)

    NaBloPoMo - day 21 - Late

    21 11 2008
It's late. I'm going to bed. Real post tomorrow.

    NaBloPoMo - Day 20 - Quote.

    20 11 2008

“I prefer winter and fall, when you feel the bone structure of the landscape - the loneliness of it, the dead feeling of winter. Something waits beneath it, the whole story doesn't show.”

    ~Andrew Wyeth

    NaBloPoMo - Day 19 - Quick Quip.

    19 11 2008
Heath and I bowl in a couples league every Wednesday night. Tonight, after a particularly bad streak, I hit the ten pin in the first part of the frame, and got a spare in the second. The spare was a particularly solid hit, and I sat down beaming.

Heath looks at me, and says, "Good job, you should have hit that on the first one."

After a quick glare, I suggested that he got off the bench before I shoved him off. :-P

    NaBloPoMo - Day 18 - Can't talk, must sew.

    18 11 2008
I've got about 1200 ideas in my head when it comes to sewing, and right now, my first priority is a hanging sewing organizer, made out of the fabrics in the photos. I'll post a picture once it's complete, for now, here's a preview.

    NaBloPoMo - Day 17 - Yes, it's cold out.

    17 11 2008
Whatever chances of an Indian Summer were left are now gone. It's about 25 degrees outside, and with the exception of a few days this winter, I'm guessing we won't see much above that.

One of the things I love most about the wintertime is that it forces me to actually sit down and do the things I love the most. The 4-5 months of cold, snowy crap is worth it, because I finally have the time to read, sew, crochet, catch up on movies, play board and video games, and just really sit down and have conversations. So, yes, it was snowing today, and yes, it's cold out, but I'm just fine with both of those, as long as I have things to do. :-)
